Serendipity Meadworks LLC and G&S Apiary, Inc.
What’s the Buzz All About?

Serendipity Meadworks LLC is a Virginia Farm Meadery in northern Isle of Wight County founded in January 2019 by a group of friends (Ed and Jane Schweiger, Gary Gosdzinski, Rob Fitts, Julia Reedy and Sam Sayampanathan). After receiving state and federal licenses, the group produced its first batch of mead, named 1634 Spring Mead, in September 2019 using honey from its own beehives.

Six more meads have been produced with a goal of producing about five strictly honey meads and some seasonal specialty meads with local fruits or spices added. The mead is available at the onsite tasting room, in local wine shops and an occasional farmers market.

Serendipity Meadworks’ 22 acres of mostly wooded property offers walking trails and allows customers to pet the goats, and on special occasions, watch the honey extraction and mead making process. The owners work closely with G & S Apiary, Inc., coexisting in the same honey house and sharing the same tasting/show room. G & S Apiary, Inc. offers honey, soap, candles, products from the hive and bee related items. G & S Apiary, Inc. started beekeeping and making bee products in 2005 and was founded in 2011 by Gary Gosdzinski and Ed and Jane Schweiger. Soap and candle making classes and stained-glass workshops are also offered.

Serendipity Meadworks LLC and G&S Apiary, Inc. are located at 15981 Breezy Hill Lane, Smithfield, VA. Serendipity Meadworks is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Come enjoy mead at the farm or pick up a bottle of your favorite to take home.
